The Youville Residence is a six-storey building originally built in 1969 with additions and renovations in 1980 and 1997. The project consists of renovations to the 4th and 5th floors to provide a 36-bed elder adult behaviour stabilization service. The project required phased construction whereby one floor was completed approximately one month before the next floor started construction. This facility remained operational during construction.

Project Highlights

  • The renovation included:
  • • Relocation of the dining room and servery to create a walking loop around the central living/dining space;
  • • Creation of two new patient rooms and ensuites;
  • • Renovation of the care team base (nurses station) and staff amenities;
  • • New glazed balcony enclosures designed to enjoy the view when seated;
  • • Upgrade of:
    - 16 existing resident rooms and ensuites;
    - Finishes and fixtures to eliminate safety hazards, and create feeling warmth and home.
  • • Individual unit garden areas connect to walking loop to provide opportunities for residents to enjoy the natural environment.
